    2010 Big Red hard starting

I have a 2010 big red that is awfully hard starting. We have changed the oil to the thin oil, rebuilt the starter, its not in a campaign threw honda to get the crank position sensor replaced. It has a new plug, and new air filter. The Valves are within speck and it has a brand new battery that is working like its suppose to. I have talked to the shop manager at the dealer several times and he can only come up with that it might need a new torque limiter for the starter or it might need a new cam. He said there is no way to test either theory except by replacing the parts. has anyone else heard of this? Im about at my wits end on this bike.

What do you mean by "hard starting"? Lots of cranking and no firing? No firing at all?
What are you using for gas, Regular or premium? I've found running premium helps with cold starting, even at temps below -20C. Is your gas old?
You could try keeping the battery on a trickle charger, that may help too.

Also, is your BR one of the machines that was in the recall? I'm sure your dealer probably checked, but it's with a shot to verify.

I use premium gas, which is new. and it can have a full charge and will act like the battery is dead when it trys to start. and its wasnt one of the ones on the recall list. I can use my battery off my boat and it will wheel right over with no problems.

By "wheel right over" you mean it starts and runs no problem?

Have you tried using a voltmeter on the battery? It kinda sounds like you may have a bad battery if your the battery from your boat has no problem cranking. The other thing is, do you have a bunch of accessories that turn on when the key is in the On position?

Re: 2010 Big Red hard starting

I have installed a brand new battery, and currently installed a new starter. I have no accessories on it at all and it will spin over good now with the new battery for about 6-10 revolutions but then it sounds like it starts dragging.

Once it starts and runs will it restart easy? I found on mine if I wait until the fuel pump shuts off, you can hear it and the low fuel light shuts off) before trying to start it then I have no problems. Also I replaced the stock battery with a larger battery. The stock battery just didn't seam to have much reserve.
