I've been troubleshooting pretty much the same symptoms on a 2011 MUV700. Just figured out last night that the exhaust lobe on the camshaft is severly worn down. First indication was the valve clearance was way to high (to much space). From my experience, i recommend popping off the valve covers and check your clearance. For the 2011, the intake valves should have a clearnce of .15mm and the exhaust valves should be at .33mm. Not sure if it's the same for an 09 though. If they are way off, a bad camshaft may be your problem too.
