Buy one and let us know how it works out. Would love to increase the top speed.

Looks like a fairly involved job with taking ecm apart and removing a crystal, then soldering it in the new controller. Is the ecm sealed against water intrusion somehow?

If I wanted more speed I would of bought a Arctic Cat or POOOOlaris (was my thought). I have needed more speed to get across bridges when the temperature is below 30 (that's cold in Texas!) while headed out to duck hunt.

I too would like to see what the differences are, however plug and play type device would be even sweeter.

I noticed they also recommend a fuel controller with it. They claim the limiter is adjustable up to a 20% increase.

    20% is impressive!

Re: magum Rev Limiter ignitioin controller for big red

i thought about talking to them. first thing is i want to open my computer and see how challenging the installation would be.

here's the thing with that 20% increase. how? if you know anything about engines, three things make more power displacement, compression and fuel. add more of any of these and it gets more power. but then by adding any of these, other things are affected. so lets consider what happens to get more power....

with the PCV/exhaust/filter upgrade most of us do, the PCV takes the signal going to the fuel injector and adjusts its wave signal for opening and closing along with duration and amount. this is supposed to adjusted to your target air/fuel ratio of what ever fuel you run. the additional fuel introduced creates a fuel rich situation so adding a less restrictive air filter and exhaust allows for a higher volume of air to be moved through the engine more efficiently to compensate for the extra fuel being introduced into the air/fuel mixture. more fuel=more power.

BBK: larger displacement + adjusted air/fuel of performance components = even more power

Cams: typically done with BBK + performance mods - not only is the air/fuel being adjusted realtime with a PCV but now the opening and closing cycle of the intake and exhaust valves is changed as well. allowing for air/fuel mixture to flow easier into and out of the chamber allowing for an even greater volume of fuel mixture to be introduced into the cylinder, which is now larger with the BBK. plus the BBK now has a larger volume cylinder displacement but the same combustion chamber volume so.... more compression.

So what does this thing do. well it removes a timing quartz crystal and remote mounts it in a box that now adjusts the resonance frequency of the crystal. it eventually only adjusting the fuel signal and apparently the rev limiter. well the fuel signal adjustment can be helpful but no frikken way is it going to adjust 20% out of an engine. on top of that a raised rev limiter could be putting you past the effective red-line of your engine. 675CC displacement out of a single cylinder is a lot of rotating mass. even the monster 1000 can am rotax has dual 500CC jugs. if you run a 715CC BBK that would be even more rotating mass of a larger piston. you can bet these engine's rotating assemblies are hand balanced like a race engine.

maybe once my warranty is out, i might run one.... but to me seems like a bad idea.

whew that was a long message

It's a Scam! The Magnum Pro-Revolution CDI Box can't be installed, you will destroy the PGM-FI Unit or "ECU" trying to get it apart and once you do it can't be installed because the components listed on the board are not even in there. I'm trying to find somebody that makes a Software Kit that will allow a tuner to plug into the stock PGM-FI Unit and Tune it, plus delete all the troublesome speed/rev limiters.

i would assume that's not going to happen. honda's have had this issue for years and there are tons for FI ranchers and foremans out there. a stand alone after market computer is about the only way to over come this. honestly, all you would be gaining is overcoming the rev limiter. its kind of a downer to think so, but honestly a PCV is about all you would need. remember that raising your rev limiter will allow you to closer approach the engines redline and possible failure.
