In December of 2012, I purchased a used 2010 Big Red. The dealer convinced me to purchase the extended warranty. So I did. I was told it covers engine and transmission. I added the display monitor, to show miles, etc.... Starting using it more in the spring. Shortly afterwards, I started to add more and more oil. I have 240 miles since my purchase. and put in more than a gallon of engine oil. Dealership says it needs a over haul. Dealer ship now says that engines are no longer covered under the warranty. Not sure what to do with the machine?
Is the warranty a written warranty? Does it specify what it covers? What does the overhaul entail (i.e. complete teardown or is it just replacing the rings) And how much is the overhaul going to cost? What did the warranty cost you? It's probably not worth taking them to court if it's less than $1000, but you might want to think about taking it to another shop and getting a second opinion.
I just found out I am in the same boat. Its time for a rebuild so I called the dealer and they said the warrenty I have does not cover motor or tranny unless something inside broke. I think it was the aftermarket warrenty ( zurich ) I think. Head mechanic said if I had the Honda factory warrenty it was covered.
Dealer quoted me $450.00. I did contact Honda customer service and Honda warranty. The funny thing is there pamphlet states. "WITH HONDA CARE, YOU WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SUCH ITEMS AS:" Engine, transmission, balancer shaft, cylinder heads, pistons, camshafts, cylinders, crankshafts, etc.. Yep they will not take it apart and put back together. I should look at the fine print!! LOL
$450 doesn't sound too bad for an engine overhaul. Does that include parts? Not having to rebuild would be better...
