    2016 Honda Pioneer 1000 Horsepower

Has anyone heard how much horsepower and torque the new Honda Pioneer 999cc engine puts out?

"A flagship Side-by-Side starts with a flagship engine, and the all-new Pioneer 1000-5 features one of our best. A class-leading 999cc liquid-cooled parallel twin, it’s the largest in the industry. And it’s also one of the smartest, utilizing Honda’s proprietary Unicam® cylinder-head design, perfected in our high-output motocross bikes. Built specifically for the Pioneer 1000-5, the engine is specially tuned to produce the horsepower and torque this SxS demands."

Re: 2016 Honda Pioneer 1000 Horsepower

So this is really interesting, Honda recently announced that their Africa Twin adventure bike is coming back. The part of this that has my interest peaked is that it uses an all-new 1000cc in-line twin and a new DCT transmission! Now I know the Pioneer 1000cc engine would be detuned, but could it really share the same 110+ hp engine and transmission from the Africa Twin?!

    The Africa Twin is Back!

CRF1000L Africa Twin Confirmed for 2016 Model Year

TORRANCE, Calif., May 12, 2015 – Honda is delighted to announce the return of one of motorcycling’s most celebrated and evocative names—the Africa Twin. Having clearly shown the direction of its development and intent with the reveal of the True Adventure prototype at EICMA in November 2014, American Honda can now confirm that the all-new CRF1000L Africa Twin will be in U.S. dealers early next year.

Some motorcycles encapsulate perfectly what an adventure motorcycle is all about. The original XRV650 Africa Twin—which debuted in 1989 after Honda’s four successive wins in the Dakar Rally—was one such machine. Its go-anywhere ability, rugged durability, agile handling and all-day comfort made it the perfect partner with which to explore. And it helped to define a motorcycling segment that has now grown into one of the most popular worldwide. The new Africa Twin remains true to all the attributes and abilities of the XRV650 and its successor, the XRV750, while adding the benefits of everything Honda has learned on and off-road over the last decade, including Team HRC’s return to the Dakar in 2013.

Furthermore, in a first for the category, the Africa Twin will feature the option of a new evolution of Honda’s Automatic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) technology, which remains unique to Honda in motorcycling. This latest evolution of DCT has been specifically developed and programmed to provide the off-road ability with which the Africa Twin is synonymous.

The all-new CRF1000L Africa Twin is set to redefine expectations of just what a large-capacity adventure motorcycle can and should be capable of, both on and off-road, and it opens an entirely new chapter in Honda’s illustrious history of dual-purpose motorcycles made for true adventure.

With the Pioneer 1000 bore & stroke of 92mm x 75.1mm and single throttle body, I expect it to make bundles of torque.
For comparison, the Polaris RZR 1000 engine has a bore & stroke of 93mm x 73.6mm. Bring it Honda, I can't wait to get one of these!

Re: 2016 Honda Pioneer 1000 Horsepower

Honda is indicating class leading horsepower and torque, while the closest comparison would be the Polaris Ranger XP900 with 68 HP or the RZR 900 with 75HP each using the same design 875cc twin engine. So best guess is between 70 to 80 HP depending upon the class model they are comparing against. This Honda 999cc engine & DCT 6 speed transmission is nearly identical to the Honda Africa motorcycle also new for 2016 and it is rated at 110HP.

So if Honda has tuned this thing for say 70-75HP they still have 35-40HP easily to play with for future releases venturing into the pure sport market, this could be a heck of a base for them to build from. Given my riding style I will be tickled to death with the 1000-5 Deluxe as it is for trail riding I rarely get all 4 wheels off the ground at the same time. But let Honda add 20-30 HP and 5" of suspension over the Pioneer 1000 in a pure sport chassis they will have a contender for the masses. Not everyone needs or can use the 120-140HP turbo setups for trail riding although great in the dunes the larger market share from the other 45 states doesn't live and play in a sandbox and this setup is in the right direction for recreational performance and reliability.

The Pioneer 1000 will have an electronic limited top speed of 62 mph if some early information from a rep is correct. That will be plenty fast for me on the back roads.

Not bad! Hopefully it's more mid to high 60s on the final production models.

80hp is a pile of power. but in the end displacement is it.... let it breathe easier in and out, add more fuel and magic happens. now work with web-cams on a custom grind, or heck maybe that africa engine is that close that you could just swap cams.

Re: 2016 Honda Pioneer 1000 Horsepower

The 1000-5 Deluxe is going to be an Industry leading machine with approx. 70+ HP & a top speed of 60+ mph!! Just what I've collected from what I've read. 5-person capacity, with an Auto-Leveling RR Suspension.....Looks like it will be a little bigger in dimensions to the current Pioneer 700-4 (60" W, 78" H & 114" L). Some articles say it has over a FOOT of ground clearance & it American Made. Features include: Standard LED Headlights, LED meter, 4-stroke 2-cylinder 999cc engine, with Electric Power Steering & Paddle Shifters! Estimated MSRP for Deluxe Grade.....approx. 18K! BOOM! I'm excited....and would be even more so if I had the CA$H

Re: 2016 Honda Pioneer 1000 Horsepower

Its rounded off on all the numbers. The Pioneer 1000 is 76.8 hp The Pioneer 1000 production will be much higher on this model. Honda is going after Polaris in a big way. Yamaha will also go after Polaris with their sport model to be announced in September. Polaris has screwed many of their customers in a big way. Check out the Polaris forums, nothing but problems. Now that there will be a choice Polaris will lose lots of customers to Honda and Yamaha. You can count on Yamaha and Honda quality. Honda should have sport models next year.
