    Tires and wheels

Glad to be a new member and had a question about wheels and tires. Just purchased a new 500 and can't decide between 26 or 27 inch tires. 500 will be used for deer hunting and trail riding. I was thinking a Sedona ripsaw on 14 inch wheels, but have seen some running 27. Will they rub or bottom out or do I have to cut the frame for the 27's. If that's the case then I will go with 26's. Any thoughts

    Re: Tires and wheels

I have 14s with 27 x 9 and 27 x 11 ripsaws. No frame cutting needed. The only rubbing occurs while doing a full steering wheel turn and it only happens on the inside wheel and if you going pretty good into a turn. When you do it makes the sound similar to a card in a bicycle spoke. No bottoming out issues.

Hey Near, just wondering what your wheel and tire package did to your acceleration, torque, and top end. They look great. What kind of wheels?

Power is down but not much and the added traction is well worth it. Top speed is 43 on mine 41 on my buddies green one that's stock.

NEAR...love the look of the wheels an tires. Can you give me the exact size of those wheels? What is the offset (factory is 5+2 I believe) but with wider tires did you need to change offset?

I'm not sure to be honest I had them added at the dealer before it ever left. I can look later and see if it says in the wheel anywhere though. I'm 95% sure they are 14x8 rims. I do know the tires are 27x9 and 27x11 and for sure they are 14 inch wheels.

I just got new wheels and bighorn tires 26x12x12 rear and 26x9x12 front. The front tires are about 1/2" from the frame at full turn. I am not sure if they are going to hit the frame on bumps. This is a little worrisome. I hope it is safe. I had heard others using 27" tires without hitting but the sizes must vary and the wheel offset might have been different. But before and after sure is a big difference!

    Re: Tires and wheels

Mine did rub at full turn at first but it was minimal. Kinda made a card in a bicycle spoke wheel kinda sound with minimal vibration in the wheel. I have less than 60 miles on the and I don't notice it anymore. Otherwise I was going to trim and patch the frame corner that rubbed but then I'd be mad I didn't go 28 or bigger.

I took it out today on some pretty rough terrain and some high speed turn on bumps, hills and burms with 3 people on board to see if I could get them to rub. No rubbing!

    Re: Tires and wheels

Follow up. The larger tires weighed in at nearly 60 pounds more overall than stock (all 4). That was very noticeable today at the sand dunes especially when bogged down or trying to climb steep inclines. The P500 just struggles enough for it to be a noticeable drop in power and acceleration. That said, it rides smooth, handles great and looks great!

I've got 26s ripsaws on factory rims. They ride a little rough but man they go anywhere I've tried so far.
