It was my understanding that they nixed everything except actually going to a dealer and getting your helmet in person... to ensure "proper fit"...

Yup, but you can check Ebay also. Last time I bought a helmet I voted with my wallet and bought a Shoei, which was the best choice because the X11 is better than anything Arai makes right now. Now Shoei is doing the same thing. So next time I'll try a Suomy/AGV/Shark/OGK or whatever. If I know what size I wear then I don't need to go to the dealer. I think this is a bad move for any company that tries it.

Well thats what I thought from the previous discussions, but I had someone tell me today that it only applied to internet sales not mail order... :rolleyes:

You can buy them on ebay. They have some great deals for the top-of-the-line Arai.

Check out the new Suomy's! I was Arai all the way, but now I'm a fan of Suomy.

Someone earlier on this thread mentioned "voting with their wallet" with other brands that are more available via the internet or mail order. Certainly with Arai, Shoei, Suomy and AGV you can always use your local store to get a correct fit. However, OGK is a brand that you need to go to the store and buy it. OGK does not have the same number of helmet shell sizes and they make up for he different sizes with the padding. I wear a M Arai Quantum with the next size up cheek pads (35mm). With the OGK, I have to wear a large and the padding combination with top/cheek pads are so different just to get it to sit properly. Nice finish and interesting shield system, but also more fragile then "A" and "S" brands. Whoever you buy your OGK from is going to earn their sale.

I bought my arai on ebay last year for $425. My local dealer wanted $690! :eek:

That's a lot of money to tell me my head is size medium
