I used snag intentionally, lol. Somehow I got the wire for the shift position sensor caught and broke the reverse and neutral wires. Not sure how since it's high up on the back of the engine and plenty of other things back there that didn't get touched. The sensor has two bolts holding it in and I was able to slide it out a little ways but was unable to remove it (didn't want to break anything).

Unless the BR reads neutral you can't start it. Since I didn't get the sensor out I ended up using a couple of those blue crimp on butt splices. I do want to fix or replace it. Does anyone have the manual? If so does it just pull out or is there more to it?

I have the BR service manual. Would you be referring to what they call the Gear Position Switch? If so, I can describe for you the relatively few steps they provide. The first two steps call for the removal of the rear mud guard and the engine front cover. Does this sound like where you are going?

I don't think that's the sensor. It's not a switch, all it does is indicate if you're in forward, Neutral, or reverse. It mounts on the back (you reach it from the rear of the BR). It's easy to see, just tilt the bed up and from the drivers side look at the engine. You'll see the shift cable going to the engine and near it is the sensor. I didn't have to remove any guards or shields to get at it.

I'll take a picture tomorrow.

Well yesterday was rain all day and today was snow all day long so I didn't get a chance to take a picture. I'll try later this week. The manual does call it a switch so it must be more than three simple contact points.

Hopefully, this is what you are looking for.
(Taken directly from the service manual from beginning to end)

Remove the following:
- mudguard
- engine front cover
Disconnect the gear position 3P black connector.
Release the gear position switch wire from the clamps.
Shift the sub-transmission into neutral.
Remove the rear crankcase cover.
Coat a new O-ring with engine oil and install it into a new gear position switch.
Align the long end of the switch pin with the "N" mark.
Install the gear position switch by aligning the switch pin with the slot in the crankcase cover being careful not to damage the switch pin.
Install the two bolts and tighten them.
Route the gear position switch properly.
Connect the gear position switch 3P black connector.
Install the following:
-engine front cover
-Mudguard

If this is it: good luck" :)

That would be it. I don't know what mud guard or engine cover they are talking about though. I have a feeling that the o-ring is holding it in place and may require a little bit more than light tugs to pull it out. I may not have been in Neutral, maybe it only comes out while in neutral.
