I want to buy one of those open trailers they sell at Lowe's. They have them for $499, and it looks big enough to carry two bikes. Has anyone used one before? And how do they like it? Does anyone have one for sale or know of another company that sells similar trailers, maybe used and/or cheaper. I think they are called Utility trailers?

I'm not sure about how things are up there, but down here in the Deep South, you can buy new open trailers from independent trailer dealerships that are of much better quality than the Lowe's/Home Depot trailers for only a few bucks more.

EDIT: Anything narrower than 6 feet is too tight for two bikes, IMO.

If you want to build your own (or know a buddy who will) I have a set of drawings for a car trailer that coule be easily adapted to "Bike Size". The most expensive part for an open trailer is the axles and wheels/tires. If you can get that cheaply then the rest is a breeze.

I'll send them to anyone who wants em.

That's still "up there" from down here. ;)

One of the more popular brands of utility trailers here is "Big Tex" and using Google, I found that Allstate Trailers in Knoxville carries them. They don't list the prices online from what I can tell, so you'll have to call or get an online quote. http://www.allstatetrailers.com/

Also, you'd be wise to search the classifieds or CycleTrader.com in your area for used trailers.

I have one of those 4x8 Harbor Freight trailers that you bolt together (I actually built it in my living room). I have 2 bikes on there a few times, 2800mi round trippers too. A F2 and a small cruiser. You can still get them for like $220.00 shipped. I just use it for one bike now (had a car pulling it before, now have a pickup). I probably have 20k on that trailer!
