We have 3 Rangers. Two electrics and one has 700. We have had a few issues with each machine. Nothing major just a bit of a hassle. How do you guys like your Pioneers? The DTC tranny ok? We’re considering a 1000 for our farm. Thanks in advance.

The DCT is great......IF the person driving knows how to use it. If not, they will burn up the clutches. The repair is time consuming.
.
For multiple drivers that are not aware, I have to say, your belt is an easier thing to change.
.
I do love my 1000-3 for around here on the farm, trail riding, plowing snow, and now in Iowa that the law has changed, the wife and I ride every where. Haha
BUT, I do not let anyone else drive it.

The Honda Pioneer 1000 has 13 gears(6 low, 6 high, and 1 reverse)
.
Things that tear out our clutches:
1) high gear pulling to heavy of a load, lugging in high
. . . new drivers not knowing that LOW is the way to go
2) holding the vehicle stopped on an uphill slope with the transmission and not the brake
. . . clutches are just sitting there spinning, burning
3) shifting between high and reverse when not stopped and engine at idle
. . . owners try to rock themselves out of being stuck
4) or when stuck they accelerate slowly
. . . If the tires are not moving/spinning, STOP!
.
With that being said, there are many Honda owners with good mileage and never had any clutch problems. Here is one over 75,000 miles. NO, not seventy five hundred, seventy five thousand.

The durability is there, if used properly.

Some owners, @JenElio, use them as boats. haha

And some use them as submarines. 😱

IF you can TRAIN who ever is going to be using it, the Honda is the way to go.
If you have some of the younger generation using them, Nope, stick with your easy to change belt.

haha, remember that old saying.
The problem with common sense is that, it is not very common. (y)

polaris accessories
Hi,

I am researching side by sides and was very interested in the midsize ranger 800 . I will be using it for 50% work building a hunting cabin and hunting and 50% for play. I like the 50 hp that the ranger provides. They ( Polaris seem to be the off road kings and have been in the market years before Honda ( with regards to sbs ). BUT after reading so many reliability issues with Polaris I started looking at a Pioneer , I do like it for me 45 mph is fast enough I am a little concerned about low end power . There is no denying Honda reliability and believe me I do not want my money going into my side by side every weekend. So what I am asking is how is the Pioneer reliability factor ( have they even been out long enough to ask )
Thanks in advance
Bill

The Rangers are not bad but they do require more minor type repairs. Things like cvt belts, A arm bushings, electronics etc seem to be more problematic. Performance wise they are great machines but they definitely have more fit and finish issues and overall quality problems. I myself am used to Honda reliability and not having to take my equipment back to the dealerships.

Have had a Polaris Ranger 570 EFI since 2015, first thing I did was put a dura clutch on it, best thing you can do on a Polaris. It's been all farm work daily, served us well. Have 3 Honda ATV's, one is a 1995 Foreman, zero issues since new. Just got a Honda Pioneer 1000 Deluxe, it's quite the machine. The DTC is a little different, it can do some bucking under certain situations, but it's a learning thing. We didn't really look at the Polaris 1000, just happened to fall into the Honda deal. It doesn't ride any different than the Polaris, but the electric steering, power, transmission are all a big difference. The Ranger is still the go to work UTV, the Honda is still to new to be hauling farm stuff. I will say it uses a lot more gas then the Ranger, I know the engine is larger, but wasn't expecting that much on an increase. My advice is if you can get one, do so, you will not be disappointed.
