So let's talk pants, leather or mesh? Comfort? Style? Who wears what? Today a buddy of mine came over with a pair of jeans and he had his wife sew in armor and a zipper for his jacket? Did this do him any good? or is it more ancedotal?

Most of the time, on short commuting trips, I either wear some flimsy pants ( ), or Draggin' Jeans. Medium rides I wear 'Jeans. Long trips my Aerostich Roadcrafter pants. Serious twisties (rarely ), HJC 1pc.

OH GOD, not the mesh v. leather debacle again.

Seriously though, I have GOT to get off my arse and get a proper pair of riding pants soon. The Levi's thing ain't cutting it. I'm a textile guy, so I'll probably go with Cortech Pants from Tour Master. I've got their Cortech Sport jacket and love it. They're very tough, well made, waterproof, armored, etc.

Here are a couple links that might help in your search...

Mike, you keep beating me to the punch on these posts.

Hey, serious question, is that Road Crafter worth the moolah?

Yepper

I'm afraid it is

Why afraid? Because a) it's more well-spent money out of your pocket, and b) it's one less excuse not to ride in the rain

Leather pants for me. Since my old First Gear pants failed I've been riding in jeans. Lemme tell ya, I hate it. Leathers are SOOOO much more comfortable. Hopefully those Vanson pants will get in soon so I can try 'em on. If not, I may get a custom suit made, but I really want to get back into a pair of leather pants. They're great.

I've never had any experience with textile gear.

Are we talking bedroom?

I got the Alpinstars track pants. I take the pucks off for street ( for that matter I still don't need um for track too. )

Yes, absolutely! It is the most well-made textile suit in the market. Very functional, fits over street clothes, easy on/off, waterproof, tons of pockets, and venting. They state it will hold up in a crash almost as well as leather. Many trackday organizations allow them. They also have knee, elbow, hip and shoulder protection, and an optional back protector.
I love mine! I use it exclusively on the street now, saving my leathers for the track.

I personally have heard and seen too many people with road rash from getoffs with textile. When professional racers wear textile,I will think about switching. If it's good enough for a racer,it's good enough for my my chicken strip havin arse. How many people do you know with road rash from leathers?

Very few and all of those are normally from either someone being very cheap and buying something that the seams blow out or a crash over 100mph and they wear through. But they still usually have very little rash even when that happens. Then there was the guy with the two peice that didn't zip them together and it road up and rashed his stomach.

That said I don't ride at all with out my leathers on. I have a mesh jacket but I won't wear that at more then 50mph and only if it's well over 100ºF out. I have the JR speedmaster 2 piece now but am looking for a 1 peice soon.

Around town I have to say I wear jeans, but for longer rides I'll put on the JR 2-piece Highside suit. I will wear the Fieldsheer full suit in the cooler months, and if you are looking to spend a lot less on a suit I would highly recommend the Fieldsheer suit I bought from New Enough. The fit is awesome, it has a full zip out liner, and it keeps me warm and dry. Big thing is I did not have to spend all the that cash on a Areostich.

Just my 2 cents!
