I just ordered one from Helmet Harbor. You cannot beat these guys. Great selection, solid customer service, speedy and free shipping. Nice.

Anyway, anyone here have some experience with the RF-1000? Assuming this thing fits my Make Fun of Him sized head, I may have found the one helmet capable of dragging my loyalty away from Arai.

Chain

P.S. I ordered a solid white one. It should be pretty cool in the temp department (compared to, say, black) and will make me more visible in traffic. Besides, with a dark smoked shield and black riding jacket, it'll be a very BIKE magazine / UK type look that will, IMHO, go with any bike I'd find myself riding.

Hmmmm....the beginnings of an upcoming switch.... :evilaugh:

I tried on the 1000 and the X11 this weekend as I need a new helmet. HAd the XSPII before this. The X11 just fits my head MUCH nicer and feels better. Weird thing is in the XSP I wore a L, in the X11 I need a M. Don't tell me I've lost 1 of the 2 brain cells that I had!!!!

Thanks for the intel.

Guess there aren't too many RF-1000 owners here - it's a pretty new lid yet though. I paid a paltry $269.95 for solid from Helmet Harbor (free shipping from these boys too). I hope I like it. I suppose one way or another when it arrives.

Here's a nice review for anyone who might be contemplating buying one. Webbikeworld is one of my favorite moto sites on the internet...

Son Travis has the TC-2 version of the RF-1000 and loves it. He's got a pretty big dome like the old man, although not quite as bulbous! I've checked it out and it's definitely a nice lid. I think you'll like it a lot! :thumb:

Chain, I doubt you will replace your Arai with it for the summer months. The 2 Shoei RF's that I had (700&900) didnt vent work crap and I hear the 1000 is better but still not on par with an Arai. The good thing in my book about the Shoei is the shield system is awesome and easier to get along with and a less obstructed view out of it.

Reviews I've read said basically what you said about the venting of the 1000. Every review I've read on the X11 says it's the best venting helmet out there.

I like it so far. I have only the VR-1 to compare. The X-11 does feel like a pillow on my head though. The venting seems ok, but when it's hot it is HOT.
I can sit above the windscreen at 90+ and keep a level head. I recommend the chin curtain which allows clean air into the helmet. I wear contacts blah blah blah.....

Chain...you'll look like a matchstick with a white helmet and black leathers. :idunno: :D

I'm sure it'll be fine. Shoei has some good quality helmets and that's one of them. :thumb: (now if they could just lower their prices a bit :) )

Here you go switchin' to Shoei chain and I'm looking to switch to Arai. My RF800 fit my "hard to fit" head excellent. Big time boom to the ground at the track last year, time for a new helmet. Enter RF900, doesn't fit as well as the old 800, but still pretty good. This year I lust after the Zemke RF1000 and dying to have one. Try the helmet on and it doesn't fit worth a crap. Tried again just this weekend at Laguna Seca and despite all my will power it just doesn't fit anything close to my older RFs.

Try out Arai Quantims (speling?) in various designs at the the Cycle Gear tent at Laguna and WOW, it fit really, really well. Plus, they were going for $299 for the graphic models! To bad other gear purchases had priority so the helmet purchase has to wait, but I think I found my new lid.

Can't speak on the above venting issues between the brands, but I will say that I wouldn't call the previous Shoei helmets I've had as "cool". But, I have to go fit over vent because of apparent hard to fit head.

Will be buying Arai!

Way off topic, but I have seen the colored ones shatter upon impact, while the black and white ones do well. My vote is for the Vortex units with the replacable pucks.
Chris
I was thinking about black 1's. Thanks.

P.S. I know it was off subject that's Y I started W/Question? Weasle :eek:fftopic: :D

You had a chance to buy new Arai Quantum graphics for $299 and didn't?

Buddy, I'd have sold myself into prostitution for the week in order to have brought one of those home. Three bills for that lid is an otherworldly steal!

Personally, I still think Arai is the probably the finest helmet big money can buy, but I'm tired of paying so damned much for a hat that is not two and three times better than nice lids from Shoei and KBC. I initially gravitated to Arai simply because they fit the best, but if this RF-1000 fits as well as I think it's gonna, Arai won't be getting any more of my money.

:soapbox:

I got my free RF-1000 when I purchased my bike. I found that the RF-1000 doesn't cut through the wind barrier, like my Arai RX-7's do. So, passenger gets the RF-1000 now!

chain, I spent a few hundred bill elsewhere on deals that I couldn't pass up and I didn't need a new helmet right now. I was pushing my luck, at home, anyhow. I hated to do it, but sometimes you just walk away and have a good cry! :crying:

When I was at a dealership in San Diego I noticed the 600rr going for 10,599 if I remember correctly it was a couple years ago now, Dano feel free to chime in with some back up to my story, so I'm thinking you didn't get your helmet free...gotta watch how those salespeople talk to you.

Chain- I being a pretty brand loyal person found myself torn away from Shoei when I tried on my current Arai RX-7 Corsair and I now think Arai's are the best helmets out, I say that now that I finally have swapping visors down to a science. So let me know if this RF-1000 can break a loyal Arai customer away.
