Spyke Leathers

I've had my eye on these leathers at the local Honda dealer. They are made by Spyke and I've read that they are pretty good. In line w/ Dianese and Teknic.

Has anyone had any experience w/ them, and do you know where I can get a good deal on them?

Thanks.

Here's a link for Motorcycle Leather Exchange, I noticed they carried some: http://www.motorcycleleatherexchange.com/spyke-leathers.htm

Yes, I looked at those yesterday. I think that price was actually a bit more than the dealer quoted me. Also, I want a different color.
Good choice, Heavy; Spyke leathers are awsome stuff.

Heavy,

I'm not sure if you race or not.  If you do, you need to sign up with Lockhart Phillips Privateer.  They have Spyke leathers in every make below cost right now to racers who are signed up with them.  I'm sorry I don't still have the email so that I could post prices, but some of the deals were unbelievable.  If you don't race, but can hook up with someone who does and is with LP, it's definitely worth your while.  I'd be willing to offer up my sponsorship with them to get you the leathers that you want. My only problem is that I don't have a credit card that can hang with the purchase. We would also have to workout something about shipping them to you once I got them.

If you're interested, shoot me a PM and I'll talk to Aaron at LP and see if they have the size and type that you want and get prices.

If you do race, call Aaron and send him a copy of your race license and get the leathers at less than cost.

After re-reading my post I started to second guess myself. I'm pretty sure the email I got from Team Privateer was about Spyke's, but it could have been Spede(sp?). In either case lemme know.

h8mondays,

Thanks for the info and the offer. I don't race, but as of this morning a buddy and I are thinking about putting a team together just for fun. Aparently, he has about 10-13 possible sponsors. Anyway, I need to get tracktime, and tracktime requires leathers. I'm a chicken$hit so I want the best I can afford. I like the look of Spyke and have heard good things, but I need to go try a bunch of stuff on. I'll try to start tonight.

Very cool amigo, I hope you find what you're looking for in leathers. Don't compromise on anything about your leathers. Comfort and safety should go hand in hand. If you find that you are looking at top dollar off the shelf leathers (i.e. $1200 or more) get a custome set from Syed, Z-Custom or Helimot. The price will be about the same, they are cut for you alone you can design stuff yourself.

If you find what you're looking for off the shelf, try and grab an LP catalog. If they have the same leathers in there, shoot me an email and I'll see what my racer's discount is and try and get you a hook up.

So here is is a question: One piece or two piece. I could buy the JR Speedmaster pants to go w/ my jacket. $295 from newenough.com. I would prefer a 1 piece, but how often does a two piece really come apart? Are there any other reasons I should NOT go w/ a two piece?

Thanks for the input.

First of all, Know that Dianese and Teknic are not in the same building, let alone the same class.  Teknic are about in line with the Fieldsheer and Joe Rocket offerings and Dianese is right there with RS Taichi, Nankai and the better custom shops (Z-Custom, Vanson etc.).  Syed, although a custom house hasn't made a good suit since 1995 (when they decided to begin making more money).

A two piece is fine if you're going to do an occasional track day or run on the street.  If you think you might go racing, don't waste your money (you will only have to sell the 2 piece and buy a real racing suit).  If you are looking for something in the 295.00 area, then perhaps racing isn't your thing, as most racers spend that in a weekend on tires alone (before you even factor in race gas, oil, spares, hotel room, transport etc., etc.).

Abtech -

What do you think of Barnacle Bill's suits?

Thanks for the info
G
I'll second what Abtech is saying about Dainese. My leathers held up incredibly well for my highside adventure. I got mine for a great price at the time, but I think that they are often too pricey for off the shelf and if faced with dropping $1200 on leathers right now, I'd go with Z-custom. My last set from Syed was awesome, but I had those made for me in 94. The suits I've seen from them recently look good, but I haven't seen them crash tested either. I've heard about Barnacle Bill's being decent suits, but have never seen them and am interested in what people have to say about them. All that being said, the last couple crash tests of Teknic made me very aware that I won't buy their leathers, although I do like the build quality of their gloves.

I have a Spyke Dodger jacket. It is of excellent quality - I'd have to say that it is as good as my Kushitani 1-piece even.
