i've heard they were good, and so i looked on ebay for one (need one for a female friend...she's wearing my old arai right now but i was in an accident with it and i want to get her a proper helmet) and noticed they are STUPID cheap....i'm used to paying 500 plus for arai but right now i don't have the cash to shell out for another one...i heard good things about agv but the price is kind of scaring me...usually with hemlets quality equals money. at least that's what i've been told. any help would be appreciated.

AGV helmets are quite good. Maybe not up to Arai standars, but I feel they are still on the leading list. There are several people who bitch about the visor release system, but such things are not really to worry about for a pillion.

I have owned Shoeis, Arais, Bells and AGVs. I like the AGV because they fit better than all the others and have much less wind noise. Just make certain you get the top of the line models, as they have several that came from their acquisition of Laser a couple of years ago for entry level units.

I have crash tested all of these brands as well and the AGVs have performed very well . . .

Their low end...is very low end. The high end is pretty sweet! I had the Xvent and liked that...the new one I think is called the X2r or something.

I crashed my X-vent that I got on Ebay for $150 and bought another to replace it because when I tested it by throwing it on the garage floor 3 times and it just bounced off. No dammage except paint. Then I took a framing hammer to it. It took 10 hard knock a nail down in one hit blows to crack through. All hits in the same spot. Then I took the claw side and it took 6 hits to crack it. I bought two more after that.

Damn.. damn.. now I'm going to have to start looking at AGV helmets again.. if only I could find a local retailer/dealer.... my head is weird and mail-ordering a helmet.. I don't know what to get.

I do use Shoei M size typically. I really like the Rossi rep X-vents i'd been seeing around. Sounds like you guys did on them. mo money, mo money mo money...

AGV helmets are ok if you get the higher end models. I had a lower end AGV a couple of years ago that I used only as a passenger helmet and the padding came unglued and just fell out. That was after only a year or so of infrequent use. It's been my experience that the lower end AGV's are less comfortable and noisier than other affordable helmets. I'd go with an HJC honestly.
