I'm looking for some warm (hot) weather gear recommendations. Something with a good amount of protection for upper & lower body for aggressive weekend rides or track days. I looked at some Joe Rocket stuff earlier that was mesh with pretty good padding/armor that looked pretty good.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

I have the Fieldsheer Mach2 jacket. It is very comortable, has hard CE protection and has leather in the major slide areas.
I have yet to crash test it, but it is day and night different from the Joe Rocket Phoenix stuff.

I like my First Gear Mesh Tex jacket. It was rated #1 by MCN last year. I'm not sure if they make pants for it or not though.

I like the Fieldsheers mentioned by Fastter, and I recently sprung for the very affordable Joe Rocket Phoneix 2.0, but my true love for textiles lay with the Tour Master company. Their Cortech GX Air and matching GX Air pants are about the best looking, sturdiest textiles of their type IMO.  I own a different TM jacket, a pair of their gloves and two bags and I find their product build quality second to none.

This is a timely post, whip. After defending Joe Rocket in other threads, I can honestly say I think I made a bit of a mistake with my Phoenix purchase, only because I view the Tour Master as higher quality.  I've gotten a few 'rapellers' (strands of material coming loose and hanging off the jacket). It sort of bothers me that I'm having to take a match to my damn coat after every long ride.

I think I might call up the vendor I bought through and see about an exchange plus cash for a Tour Master Cortech GX Air.

Edit: TM Cortech Air Jacket

If you liked the jacket, here's the pants too.

Sh*t! I'm beginning to kick myself over this. The TM stuff is what I should have bought.

I'll be making some phone calls later today.

Edit #1: corrected the cussing.

Edit #2: link fixed too.

But they aren't really mesh (not that that's a bad thing protection wise) so will it breath enough for the summer months?

krash954 : Man that is a sweet looking jacket Chain, never seen it before.
Yep. Nice coat. At the Cycle World Motor. show this year I bought a Joe Rocket Reactor coat. Also have a pair of Fieldsheer vented pants. Haven't worn the coat yet, but I like the pants. Couple of months ago I bought a 2pc Teknic suit. Not vented, but it's not too hot at riding speeds. Pretty nice actually.

Sorry Crash. I linked you to the Cortech GX Jacket, not the Cortech GX Air Jacket - two distinctly different products. Check the link again, it's fixed. And yes, the GX Air line is indeed breathable ballistic mesh.

ND4SPDSHO : Perforated leather
Expensive, heavy, comparatively hot, needs to be treated for water repellency, etc. No offense, I just don't think it's the best choice for beastly-hot weather.

UPDATE - I just got off the phone with Joe Rocket Customer Serivce. They claim they have sold over 650,000 ( ! ) Phoneix Jackets in the two years they've been making it and this is the first time they've heard of such a problem (dangling threads). They've asked that I send the jacket back for a no questions asked replacement. I guess that's what I'll do. So I'm back to the TM Cortech 3/4 Sport Jacket that I love (but typically only ride in cool weather because it's not the best in venting, even w/o the liner).

I'll let you guys know how the JR issue unfolds.

Edit: The tech on the phone theorized that a bobbin on the machine that sews the jacket might have been out of alignment or somesuch.

I'll agree to all of that.....but I've experienced roadrash, and it's a small price to pay to protect my hide. And I was only going about 25mph when I hit the pavement

Just bought the jacket and pants after looking over virtually everything else at motoliberty. The only thing that comes close to the protection is the Vanson (better), and its $250 for a jacket that has no pant or provision for zip in pants. The FS has a removable liner too for cooler season/climate riding or elevation changes (something I plan on doing a lot of )

Free plug???

Let me know if anyone's interested in a practically brand new FieldSheer mesh jacket red/black (worn once for about 1/2 hour).  Paid $120.00 sell for $70.00 + Shipping

I wear leather, not too many days where it's unbearable here.

pm me if interested. I'm heading home, respond Monday

Later!

I've been shopping around and like the versatility of the Cortech stuff, with the venting and the removable liner, so I can go hot/cold, wet/dry, as compared to leather, while still getting the armor protection I don't have currently with my basic leather jacket. I'm just not sure how truly 'breathable' the Cortech is in really hot weather. Summers here get into the mid-to-upper 90's or hotter, and I still want to ride then. Also - when one does a track day, do they insist on leathers or can you use armored Cortech?
